Hi my name is Kit.

I took the DiSC management profile recently as part of a leadership program and that helped me understand myself better. If you're familiar with it, i'm an "i." It says I'm outgoing, enthusiastic, optimistic, high-spirited and lively. It says I grow bored with routine and maintain my enthusiasm and drive under pressure. It also says I feel confident in my ability to improvise and prefer a more free-flowing approach. Umm... I guess it's true. =)

On Oct. 25, my college alumni association had a ribbon cutting and reception for a photo exhibit at the 3rd floor of the FilCom Center in Waipahu, which featured select photographs from our members on the theme “I Value…” All photos on exhibit were taken by our members, some are also for sale. Here’s photo […]

Donate local. I had the pleasure of working with dedicated and passionate caregivers of the ALS Ohana of Hawaii, and the ice bucket challenge is great – raised millions for the cause, BUT, if there’s one thing I learned from them – it’s that help is needed NOW and your help matters NOW. The national […]

Published in the FilAm Courier, Jan. 16, 2014 Issue Growing up, I was raised to have all things round every New Year. It’s a universal shape for good luck. It should bring prosperity and good karma for a fresh beginning. Or so I thought. I forgot if it was 6, 9 or 12 varieties of […]

Some de-lata goods donated to victims of the typhoon had notes like “Kapit lang” (hold on), “Wag mawalan ng pag-asa” (don’t lose hope) and “Wag susuko” (don’t give up). My first set of tears following Aling Yolanda’s aftermath in Central Philippines was when a dear friend pleaded for help on Facebook Nov. 11. He had […]

If you’re not going to this event, one thing’s for sure: you’ll miss out. The Oct. 15 earthquake that struck Central Philippines left over 200 casualties and 340,000 displaced. Maui’s community of devoted chefs and friends gather for one night to raise funds for the  American Red Cross-Philippine Earthquake fund. Seats are limited so reserve […]

Members of Pooch Fit Club – yes, our cute pet doggies – will have a benefit run to raise funds for the Maui Food Bank. The dogs won’t even know it, but this campaign will help the community fight hunger while the canines take control of their health. What a great way to kick-off the […]

This article was published in the FilAm Courier, Oct. 16 issue. Maui did it again. I couldn’t be more proud to call Maui my home. Condé Nast Traveler’s Magazine has rated Maui best island in the world – the top pick of its correspondents – now on its 20th consecutive winning year. Sure, there are […]

Here’s another upcoming project! There are so many things going on this October and these little projects actually keep me sane. Everyday I drive by Kaahumanu Ave, the tents are slowly coming to life. Pretty soon, the rides, the food booths and the lights will get some action and you’ll find yourself, once again, at the Maui Fair. Just like you, I enjoy my time at the fair. Luckily, I had the opportunity to participate further […]

One of the hardest things living 5,000 miles away from your immediate loved ones is that inevitably, you’ll miss out on birthdays, get-togethers, CHRISTMASSESSSSSS, etc. It’s been five years now since I moved – and just when I thought I’m doing good… POP gets engaged and gets married. How can? How can? How can I […]

So Mashable published this list of ‘procastinators’ – a comic illustration by Angela Liao of 20px.com. You can find it here: http://mashable.com/2013/09/13/procrastinators-comic/?utm_cid=mash-com-fb-main-photo As you can see, here I am typing this ridiculous post instead of writing something like press releases for upcoming events I’ve committed to do. Darn it. Well, part of me is trying to […]

This is one of my favorite things to do with photoshop. I like restoring old photos. It’s fun to alter images – remove this person, make shirt color different, add longer hair, etc. etc. – BUT it’s more challenging to preserve the original image. This was a request from a good friend – ‘Can you […]

It’s that time of the year again. September 21-22 weekend will be dedicated to my art of choice: shotokan karate. My mum, and her family, though she doesn’t speak it all the time, IS ilokano. My Ninang is hardcore ilokano. Lola Pinky of my dad’s side CAN speak ilokano (she’s actually multi-lingual and spoke many Filipino dialects which is pretty awesome). Anyway, what I’m trying to say is – I wish I took learning Ilokano […]

How to drink HI Air POG

Frequent flyer or not, you’ll encounter these cups from Hawaiian Airlines when you travel inter-island. You’ll have a choice of water or POG (passion-orange-guava). Now, if you just doze off like me, then all you need to worry about is looking ‘fine’ when the flight attendant passes by. Fine i.e. you have your sunglasses on, […]

This is me in the cartoon, in my woman-cave of an organized chaos. Consider this as your sneak-peak into my most personal space – my room in the heart of the sleepy town of Wailuku. But don’t be fooled by the outdated branding, Maui is nowhere near sleepy at all. There are back-to-back community events, […]
